Cardinal John Henry Newman is recognized as one of the foremost intellectual figures of the nineteenth century. A prolific writer, with over forty major works published, he is well known as a theologian, philosopher, educational theorist and poet.

Dr James Pereiro has been a member of Oxford University History Faculty and published extensively on English nineteenth century ecclesiastical history and theological thought. His publications include Theories of Development in the Oxford Movement, Ethos and the Oxford Movement and the biography Cardinal Manning. He has also edited, with Prof. Steward L. Brown and Dr Peter Nockles, The Oxford Handbook of the Oxford Movement.
