Synopsis

The bus is still the most widely used form of public transport in the world. The contribution of an efficient public transport system in controlling road congestion and reducing environmental pollution is considerable. The international conference on Bus '92, organized by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and held at its headquarters in London in March 1992, brought together experts from all over the world to share their knowledge of bus design and operation. A wide range of topics was covered, including design for safety, low emissions through alternative fuels, ways of increasing passenger comfort, electronic developments and the different urban transport systems in Europe, Hong Kong and Australia. The papers presented at the conference are contained in this volume.
