*Explores for the first time in one volume the role of local history in Holocaust studies *Cutting-edge research by young scholars The Holocaust and Local History brings together a number of cutting edge Holocaust histories by younger scholars, and includes an introduction reflecting on the role of the local in Holocaust studies. In doing so the book emphasises that we must seek local answers to the global questions on the origins of genocide. As such this collection mirrors the developing tendency in Holocaust Studies to draw a picture, on a very local canvas, of how the Holocaust developed. The articles contained here offer new and detailed empirical investigations of the Holocaust from across occupied Europe from aryanisation policy in Bucharest to the role of the indigenous population in the Hungarian countryside right up to a consideration of the operation of Holocaust memory in contemporary Poland. This volume demonstrates the enduring vibrancy of contemporary Holocaust studies.
