Hartill, well-known for her religious broadcasting and journalism, takes a new look at an old heroine.- First Edition. Florence Nightingale was twenty-nine when she visited Egypt in the winter of 1849-50 with her friends Charles and Selina Bracebridge. A journey to the fabled land of 1001 Arabian Nights was a fantastic adventure at that time, and Florence wrote long, picturesque letters to her family describing her visit and her views on the country, its history and its people. These letters were edited and privately printed by her sister, Pathenope, in 1854 and were greatly admired by those who read them, but they have never been published before 1980 or so. Attractive, intelligent and extreamely well read, Miss Nightingale was one of the earliest women to make such a journey, and she researched her subject well - in chapter 2 "Writings from Egypt" you find 3 pages on that, all the letters ever published make more than 200 pp. This books totals in 160 pp. Chapt. 5 Nursing as a spiritual vocation Book is yellow- also in this series; the trial of Joan of Arc by Marina Warner, '96 Emma Lazarus: Poet of the Jewish People by Monica Furlong (orange), The Life of Christina of Markyate (magenta); clean pages, no markings, no underlinings, binding tight, in stock, sofort lieferbar.
