A J Thompson found Johnny Aspinall's grave by chance in 1980 while prospecting at Hawks Nest, about 15km west of Laverton in the Mt Margaret Goldfields. Johnny began his diary in 1895 as he left his native New Zealand, and his last entry was made in 1896, one year before his death when he was struck by lightning.
