Synopsis

Much has been written about the failure of the European Community to achieve any real integration of the European economies and despite the great hopes of the 1992 programme there is much criticism of the claims made about the potential economic benefits. Roger Vickermann sets out to reassess the basis of the Single Market in the context of economic integration as a process. He focuses on the way that the decisions of individual economic actors (consumers and producers) will be affected by this process and hence provides a dynamic analysis in contrast to the usual comparative statistics. A particular theme of the book is the changing regional dimension of the Community and the critical role of the infrastructure in the integration process. A series of sector case studies (hi-tech industries; textiles and clothing; food, drink and tobacco; motor vehicles; financial services; and tourism) is used to illustrate the process. The book is designed to provide a unified introduction to the key economic issues raised by the European Community and the completion of the Single Market, and to complement more orthodox texts on the European Community. It should be accessible to all with a basic training in economic and of particular interest to those taking courses in the economics of the EC or European Business.

Présentation de l'éditeur

Student Unit Guides are perfect for revision. Each guide is written by an examiner and explains the unit requirements, summarises the relevant unit content and includes a series of specimen questions and answers.

A Content Guidance section combines an overview of the specific unit or module and the key terms and concepts, with an examiner's interpretation so that students understand precisely what they need to understand and learn, the skills required and the potential pitfalls.

A Question and Answer section provides graded answers, typically A and C, to questions which have been set to reflect the style of the unit. All responses are accomnpanied by commentaries which highlight their respective strengths and weaknesses, giving students an insight into the mind of the examiner.
