The analysis of work has been transformed in recent debate, with feminist analysis of women's oppression challenging not only the way we think about women's work but also our understanding of employment in general. Unequal Work consists of a series of seminal essays written by Veronica Beechey over the last ten years, brought together for the first time with a substantial new introduction. Very much a product of the new feminist scholarship, the essays tackle a variety of important topics including women's work, the labour process, patriarchy, unemployment and the future of work. Combining detailed analysis of current trends with critical discussion of conventional sociological and economic theories, the essays reflect major developments in feminist theory. The new introduction locates what follows in its wider context, linking discussion of feminist theories with an analysis of recent feminist politics.
