Synopsis

The world economy is undergoing a major transformation as a result of the technological revolution. As the balance of power between nations shifts, so national economic policies have to undergo major upheavals. Simai sets out to explore this process of change by examining the way in which countries are forced to re-interpret their role whilst looking for new opportunities and avoiding new dangers. He presents an Eastern bloc perspective on the issues involved. His analysis extends, in addition, to a consideration of the social implications of this revolution. As new social groups are formed and new skills emerge, underlying political and social structures are subjected to fundamental change. Mihaly Simai is an Hungarian economist. Outside Hungary he has acted as a Fellow of the UN Economic Commission for Europe and as a member of the UN Secretariat at the UN New York Center for Development Planning, Projections & Policies. Past publications on the world economy and global interdependence are numerous.
