Revue de presse

"What the authors of this new book have succeeded in doing, is providing something lacking in other texts. The masterful illustrations present symptoms, signs and the medical equipment and clinical skills often seen and required on the wards. The ′At a Glance′ boxes provide quick and easy reference to common paediatric conditions with a carefully selected, manageable knowledge base. This book was written with the new GMC recommendations in mind, and it appears to have achieved its aims of presenting core information and skills in a memorable way."

Guy′s Gazette, Guy′s, King′s & St Thomas′ Hospitals Medical & Dental Schools

"...an excellent text with a novel and very successful approach to the teaching of child health."

Southampton Health Journal

"...as a student nurse I have found this book invaluable in the short time I have had it...When working on a busy ward this book will be a vital guide for quick referencing and invaluable for teaching sessions. Having this book on the ward will also enable a student nurse or staff nurse to look up a particular diagnosis to expand their knowledge. Many of my colleagues also share my high opinion of this book."

Journal of Child Health Care

"...beautifully presented book...The ′At a glance′ summary presentations are a superb aid to student and registrar learning."

Family Practice

"In contrast to many medical textbooks this is beautifully presented and a pleasure to read. There is a large emphasis on community paediatrics, which other textbooks seem to neglect."

"This is a very well designed book which covers the whole of paediatrics from prematurity to adolescence dealing with both ill health and health

which students should find informative and yet easy to read."

Présentation de l'éditeur

Paediatrics and Child Health approaches the disorders of childhood by how they present to the practitioner or casualty officer. The reader is taken step–by–step through a maze of clinical presentations and the appropriate diseases are discussed at relevant or corresponding locations in the text. Only information essential to the future practitioner or casualty officer is included; rare conditions of limited clinial importance to the student are specifically excluded. The philosophy is to teach how to recogise the ill child who will require further investigation rather than encourage ′list learning′ about rare diseases seen in teaching hospitals.

The book is designed for easy use with clear headings, colour–coded chapters and special ′At A Glance′ boxes that summarize the key points of the important clinical presentations and disorders. Paediatric emergencies are highlighted in a separate chapter. The importance of the balance between the community and hospital paediatrics is reflected by the author team––two excellent teachers of community and hospital paediatrics.
