"A 16th Century Mosque" tells the story of the commissioning and building of the Suleymaniye mosque in Constantinople (Istanbul), one of the masterpieces of Islamic architecture. It describes the religious, educational and charitable activities carried out in the mosque, and the role of the mosque in the life of the Muslim community. It outlines the early history of Islam, and the basic features of Muslim beliefs and traditions. Superb cutaway illustrations and pinpoint enlargements accompany the text. Informative captions, maps, a complete glossary and an index enhance the book's educational value.
