Known primarily for his large-scale kinetic and sound-producing works, such as the monumental U berorgan, Hawkinson has also created a bird skeleton from his own fingernail parings, a latex cast of his body inflated with air, and clocks fashioned from a Coke can. a manila envelope, and a toothpaste tube. His fantastical assemblages, which may include sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, or printmaking, suggest the profound strangeness of life, matter, and time. With 250 color illustrations and three insightful essays, along with the artist's commentary on more than 150 of his hugely varied works, Tim Hawkinson will prove a revelation to all those interested in contemporary art." - Publisher. *** CONTENTS: My favorite things, by Lawrence Rinder; Speaking in tongues: the art of Tim Hawkinson, by Howard Fox; Encyclopedia Hawkinsoniae, by Doug Harvey. Hardcover. Etat : Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 223pp. Hefty & massive (10 x 1.25 x 11) coffeetable book, exhibition catalog, gently used, in FINE condition. "This book is the first comprehensive survey of the work of Los Angeles-based artist Tim Hawkinson, whose ingenious constructions of found objects and everyday items have brought him widespread recognition as one of the most original sculptors working in America today. Accompanying an exhibition opening in February 2005 at the Whitney Museum of American Art, TIM HAWKINSON provides an in-depth look at this prolific and endlessly creative artist. [] Known primarily for his large-scale kinetic and sound-producing works, such as the monumental Überorgan,* Hawkinson has also created a bird skeleton from his own fingernail parings, a latex cast of his body inflated with air, and clocks fashioned from a Coke can, a manila envelope, and a toothpaste tube. His fantastical assemblages, which may include sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, or printmaking, suggest the profound strangeness of life, matter, and time. With 250 color illustrations and three insightful essays, along with the artist's commentary on more than 150 of his hugely varied works, TIM HAWKINSON will prove a revelation to all those interested in contemporary art." [publisher copy] *Bookseller's MASS MoCA experience of "Überorgan was a new work by Los Angeles-based artist Tim Hawkinson, commissioned by MASS MoCA for its Building 5 Gallery, which is nearly 300 feet long. Possibly the largest indoor sculpture ever created, Überorgan was a massive musical instrument, a Brobdingnagian bastard cousin of the bagpipe, the player piano, and the pipe organ. It consisted of thirteen bus-sized inflated bags: one for each of the twelve tones in the musical scale and one udder-shaped bag that fed air to the other twelve by long tubular ducts" was awe-inspiring, a typically uncanny, funny, woah-inducing work-of-art-humor by Tim Hawkinson. Oversize hardcover w/brilliant corners & crisp edges, a square & tight binding, no bumps & no jacket as issued. Will likely require additional postage/insurance to get to you safely; please inquire with your specific interest. N° de réf. du vendeur RUB3322
