paperback. Etat : Like New. Second Edition. Cornelius Van Til (May 3, 1895 ? April 17, 1987) was a Dutch-American Reformed theologian, philosopher, and the principal architect of modern presuppositional apologetics. He earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from Princeton University in 1927, writing a dissertation comparing the Reformed doctrine of God with philosophical Idealism. After a short pastorate in a Christian Reformed Church in Spring Lake, Michigan, Van Til taught briefly at Princeton Seminary. In 1929, when Princeton was reorganized along more liberal lines, he joined J. Gresham Machen and others in founding Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He taught apologetics and systematic theology there for 43 years (until formal retirement in 1972, with occasional teaching until 1979).Van Til is best known for developing a distinctive Reformed approach to defending the Christian faith, commonly called presuppositional apologetics. Van Til is widely regarded as one of the most original and influential Reformed thinkers of the 20th century. His method has shaped much of contemporary conservative Reformed apologetics, particularly in Presbyterian and Reformed circles, while also generating ongoing debate and criticism from classical and evidentialist apologists. He remains a polarizing but unavoidable figure in discussions of Christian apologetics and Reformed epistemology.Yellow covers. Pages are clean. Binding is tight. Spine has some sunning.
