Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the History of Geophysics Series, Volume 2.
This second volume in the History of Geophysics continues the general aims enunciated earlier to present articles concerning the social and intellectual history of the geophysical sciences, broadly defined. All of the articles have been selected from peer-rewed material appearing originally in several of the journals published by the American Geophysical Union at that time. These journals presented a total of over 17,000 printed pages in 1984. This History of Geophysics series is intended for a broad and diverse audience, to include professional scientists, students, historians and those concerned with policy studies. Response to our first volume has been encouraging and we continue to offer the book at an extremely reasonable price.
