Hard Back. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Good. First Edition. 425 Pages. Blue boards with silver lettering on the spine. Very light wear to the front cover, barely noticeable. Interior text pages have the feel of a new book never read. The dust jacket is price clipped. There is a small ¼ inch piece missing from the top of the front cover as well as a ¾ inch closed tear and a small ¼ inch piece missing from the bottom. There is a large stain on the inside bottom of the cover. None of the moisture stain affected the book. Beyond these jacket defects it complete and the flaps readable. Here is the poignant, powerful love story of Millie and Cleve-and the moonshining "industry" that came between them and their dreams of personal happiness. It is a story that begins in tenderness and understanding, a story bright with lightness and humor, but it is a story like the southern mountains in which it is set - the path through the forest can be dark and somber, and treacherous. Millie is a moonshiner's daughter, but her father is no ordinary moonshiner; he is a master craftsman, manipulating the mash with the skill of an artist. Even so is Millie someone special. The things that girl can do with a powerful Packard sedan! Cleve aspires to be the best sheriff in the hills. He makes it-but he makes something else: a bargain in a dark conspiracy. And there is also Oren H. Stonehall. He-but you need to read the book. In the split second it took for Millie to look ahead, a revenooer car was beside her, the other closing in. She slammed the big Packard into him. Millie is certainly one of the most interesting heroines in all mountain fiction, and the action scenes between the moonshiners and the revenooers ring with authenticity. N° de réf. du vendeur 20103
