Synopsis
À la fin du XVIIe siècle et au début du XVIIIe, Rachel Ruysch était renommée en Europe pour ses natures mortes florales, appréciées pour leur réalisme et leur art. Ses bouquets, souvent accompagnés d'insectes, semblaient éclater de couleurs et de vie. Bien que sa renommée ait diminué après la fin de l'Âge d'or néerlandais, l'intérêt récent pour les femmes artistes l'a replacée au centre de l'histoire de l'art. Le livre Nature into Art explore ses réalisations tout en mettant en lumière le rôle des femmes artistes et scientifiques dans la République des Provinces-Unies. Il inclut des reproductions détaillées de ses œuvres et un index des plantes et animaux présents dans ses tableaux. Ruysch, formée dans l'atelier de Willem van Aelst et fille du scientifique Frederick Ruysch, fut également peintre de cour de 1708 à 1716 auprès de Johann Wilhelm, Électeur Palatin.
