Janson recounts the extraordinary engineering, financial, and political challenges of building the line, including disputes over rights-of-way, competition between development interests, and the larger struggle over access to Alaska's natural resources. The railway's construction was an epic early-twentieth-century Alaskan undertaking, and the book remains a useful regional-history reference for readers interested in railroads, mining, Kennecott, Cordova, and territorial Alaska. Condition: Very Good+. Clean, tight, and square, with a small bump to the lower-right corner. A striped pattern of discoloration is present on the rear cover. Otherwise a very well-preserved copy.
