DESIGN BY: David Montle. COVER DESIGN BY: David Montle. SYNOPSIS: April 7, 1984 should have been a high point in Jim St. James' life. On that day he learned he had won the Theatre Ontario award for best actor for his performance in Man of La Mancha. It looked like the start of a promising career. But two days earlier, sitting in a doctor's office, Jim had asked, "Is it AIDS?" And the doctor had replied, "Yes, I think it is." Since that week in 1984, Jim St. James, Canada's longest-surviving AIDS patient, has ridden a physical, spiritual, and emotional rollercoaster. The physical toll taken by the disease has been bad enough. Worse still has been his emotional isolation from those closest to him. As a Jehovah's Witness, Jim has suffered "disfellowship" because of his homosexuality: other members of his church are no longer allowed any contact with him, even now when his need is greatest. Yet despite the harsh facts of life with AIDS, Jim has managed to keep his zest for living, becoming a spokesman for people with AIDS, helping to establish the Toronto Persons with AIDS Foundation, and beginning to pursue again his career as an actor. Jim's story will inform and enlighten everyone who seeks a better understanding of a tragedy that increasingly touches all our lives. And people with AIDS, and their families and friends, will find in it strength and encouragement. June Callwood, author of the bestselling Twelve Weeks in Spring, is one of Canada's best known journalists. She is involved in many issues of social justice and civil liberty, and is an Officer of the Order of Canada. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library. N° de réf. du vendeur 003912
