Black wrappers with four angular cuts used to hold a single, loose, print card and a copy, in silver, of Kelly Clark's signature to front cover. Gallery Catalogue published for the solo exhibition of Clark's work at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The outer edge is faintly bowed, but else is clean, bright and tight and there is minimal wear. Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. 64 pages with full colour and B/W illustrations. One of the most beautiful art catalogs I've had the pleasure of selling. First of all there's the scale: more than 12 inches high and 10 inches wide. The matte black cover has a rag outer front edge that falls just short of the red glossy first page, an effect that would be striking enough on its own. Then there's a copy of Clark's last painting tucked into four slits above what looks like a giant silvery chalk version of his signature. The catalogue is lavishly illustrated, and his work and life eulogized by George Swinton, Arthur Adamson, Donalda Johnson, and curator Shirley Madill. Kudos to Fran Carmichael of Central Park Productions for the stunning book design. Lower front corner slightly curled, with slight commensurate wear to that first red page. "It is the manifest intention of these two simultaneous exhibitions to rectify the neglect of Kelly Clark and his work and to give the Canadian public and art world an idea of the importance of his place in the history of Canadian art. He very obviously was a unique and insular artist who sacrificed most of the gracious and pleasurable amenities of life in order to go his own way. As frightening and often painful as it was to him and his wife, paradoxically it was most worthwhile to him, and now to us, as the range and the magnitude of his work shows.
