During the Cold War a broad variety of confidence- and security-building measures (CSBMs), most of them aimed at managing the bipolar contest between East and West, were implemented in a number of places. This volume supports the assumption that such measures are appropriate today in the Asia Pacific region. The contributors assess the security environment in which CSBMs must be applied in the region, and explore current and potential Asia Pacific security concerns from several perspectives. They also review current and past approaches to confidence building worldwide, examining their relevance to a post-Cold War Asia Pacific.
