A leading figure of American Pop Art, James Rosenquist began as a commercial billboard painter before achieving international recognition for his monumental, media-saturated compositions. His layered imageryrooted in advertising, consumerism, and Cold War anxietybridged painting and mass culture. Among his most ambitious works is the 1992 print Time Dust, produced with Tyler Graphics in eighty-two colors and spanning thirty-five feet, now held in major institutions including The Met and Tate. This catalogue documents his Deutsche Guggenheim installation The Swimmer in the Econo-mist (MarchJune 1998), an immersive commentary on economics and illusion, accompanied by fold-out reproductions and critical essays by Rosenblum, Goldman, and Yang.
