Frederick Carter was born in Yorkshire in 1885 and lived most of his adult life in London where he died in 1967. He was an accomplished Symbolist painter and was widely exhibited during his lifetime. With a close similarity to the drawings of his friend Austin Osman Spare his most distinctive drawings contain esoteric and apocalyptic themes.
