Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Good. 1st Edition. First Edition. Limited Edition of 1,400 copies total (only 700 for commercial sale). 94, [ii] pp. Published by the Private Libraries Association, Pinner (1968). Bound in the publisher's royal blue cloth with an intricate gilt-stamped portrait rondel to the upper board and red/gilt spine titles. Densely illustrated throughout with 18 wood engravings and 16 full-page plates at the rear capturing Buckland Wright's masterful printmaking. Internally a very nice, clean, and tight copy. The cloth boards show light extremity rubs consistent with standard shelf handling. Housed in its original, highly fragile translucent rice paper/glassine protective dust jacket, which remains completely complete but displays expected edge wear and light creasing. Crucially, this was David Chambers' personal working copy; as the society's executive director, this volume was one of the few prized copies set aside from the non-retail archive pool, featuring the neat private bookplate of David and Hermione Chambers affixed to the front endpapers. A solid, highly presentable association example of the highest possible provenance. NOTES: This 1968 checklist by Anthony Reid is the definitive, textbook reference authority used by print collectors globally to track and authenticate the illustrations of master graphic artist John Buckland Wright (1897-1954), famous for his sensual work for the Golden Cockerel Press. As a young collector, Reid originally intended to publish his research as a simple magazine article. However, David Chambers saw the immense value of the project and single-handedly expanded it into a full standalone hardcover bibliography. Because this copy features an ironclad connection to the book's origin via the David Chambers bookplate and was one of the copies set aside from the commercial pool by the publisher himself, it holds unique archival status.
