Hardcover. Etat : New - Very Good. A 'forerunner of Pevsner', Stephen Glynne (1807-1874), ninth baronet of Hawarden, began studying churches as a child and was rumoured to have visited every parish in the kingdom during his lifetime. Although renowned for his knowledge of church architecture he could never be persuaded to write a book; the carefully written up notes he left were edited and published posthumously. Here, newly transcribed, arranged alphabetically and illustrated with contemporary prints, are his notes for 256 churches in Somerset. Slightly off-mint. N° de réf. du vendeur 545544
