Synopsis

Contributions and Struggles: Some Theological Explorations gathers key writings from one of British Baptist life’s most respected pastor-theologians. In this volume Brian Haymes has reflected on a lifetime of ministry, teaching, and theological wrestling, drawing together essays, sermons, and reflections that have shaped – and been shaped by – decades of commitment to the church, the academy, and the search for God. This rich collection explores themes including Baptist identity, the political implications of baptism, integrity in preaching, and the communion of saints. It is profoundly personal yet theologically rigorous, offering glimpses of a faith lived thoughtfully and faithfully. Whether addressing the nature of ministry, the challenge of Christian realism, or the mystery of knowing God, Haymes writes with humility, clarity, and deep spiritual insight. Ideal for pastors, students, and all who seek to think deeply about faith, church, and discipleship in a changing world, this volume invites readers to join the ongoing theological journey of one who himself might be described as a person who “made you think of God”.
