The South House, located immediately south of the Palace of Knossos was first excavated by Arthur Evans in 1908, with subsequent work carried out in 1924, but was never published. This volume pieces together evidence from the finds from the excavation housed in the Stratigraphical Museum, as well as the Daybooks of Duncan Mackenzie, to form an overview of the excavation and the history of the building. Contributions from a number of specialists assess the architecture of the South House and especially the entrance system (Jan Driessen) , the fresco fragments (P A Mountjoy) , the fragments of Early, Middle and Late Minoan pottery (C Knappett, P A Mountjoy) , pithoi and storage (K S Chrsitakis) , silver vessels (P A Mountjoy) , stone, bone, ivory, bronze and clay finds (R D G Evely) , loomweights (B Burke) and seals

...handsomely produced volume is now the reference work for the South House, a book that will be of value to researchers interested in Late Bronze Age Knossos and Crete, and a barometer of the potential of but also limitations posed by material excavated nearly 100 years ago. Here is a legacy that, thanks to the origins and development of the discipline, Aegean prehistorians will never escape and cannot ignore.' --American Journal of Archaeology Online Book Review

Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. The South House at Knossos was excavated by Arthur Evans in 1908, with supplementary investigations in 1924, but was never properly published. Located immediately south of the Palace, the house was built as part of the great restoration programme in MM IIIB/LM 1A. Its fine Minoan Hall, Lustral Basin and Pillar Crypt are matched by many important finds, including a hoard of bronze implements, silver vessels and fresco fragments. Drawing on evidence from the Daybooks of Duncan Mackenzie and extant finds, especially the large corpus of Late Minoan pottery, P. A. Mountjoy now provides a detailed account of the excavation and an analysis of the building's history. J. M. Driessen offers an overview of the architecture, with special reference to the entrance system, and P. A. Mountjoy discusses the fresco fragments. The surviving pottery is thoroughly presented by C. Knappett, P. A. Mountjoy, and K. S. Christakis. Other chapters cover silver vessels (P. A. Mountjoy), objects of stone, bone, ivory, bronze and clay (R. D. G. Evely), loomweights (B. Burke) and seals (O. H. Krzyszkowska). The South House at Knossos was excavated by Arthur Evans in 1908, with supplementary investigations in 1924, but was never properly published.
