Présentation de l'éditeur

TRIO Translation Research in Oxford has been an outstanding success. It was designed in the first instance to bring together two cultures, Paris and Oxford, and two constituencies: academics interested in translation (but who are themselves often very distinguished translators), and professional translators. For ten years, since 1992, directed by Edith McMorran, TRIO has organised termly colloquia and workshops on the broadest variety of topics: translating for the theatre, translating poetry, translating nonsense, translating film and bande dessinée ... Its proceedings have already been collected into two publications: a volume entitled Translation Here and There, Now and Then, edited by Jane Taylor, Edith McMorran and Guy Leclercq (Exeter: Elm Bank Publications, 1996), and a collection entitled Traduction au 18e siècle, edited by Will McMorran and Edith McMorran, in the series Studies on Voltaire and the Eighteenth Century (Oxford: Voltaire Foundation, 2001). This third volume gathers together work presented at a number of colloquia, but which all shared a common preoccupation, the art of translating under constraint: constraints metrical and dramatic, constraints engineered by difficult and challenging language, constraints engendered by self-translation.
