Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. Text in English. 386 pp. A universal and perennial question how did the human species come into its evolutionary position presuming to dominate, destroy, overwhelm the physical and biological environment that produced it? Further, how can we explain the seemingly unending mass killings, genocides, occurrences that are truly untypical of animal life? These constitute the rationale for Seymour W. Itzkoff's The Inevitable Domination by Man : An Evolutionary Detective Story. Some scientists see the creation of this highly intelligent and paradoxical animal Homo sapiens sapiens, as a glorious accident. This author disagrees. Through a careful and intensive study of the scientific literature, he argues for the inevitable into evolutionary reality of such a creature as man, given the unique and primeval existence on our planet Earth of a "time-deep zone of adaptation". These circumstances allowed for a relatively stable set of biophysical conditions to develop over a vast 4+-billion-year period of time. During this interval, environmental dynamics stimulated the evolution of a line of creatures, motile, predatory, behaviorally reactive and aware, whose brains would eventually enable them to organize a wide swathe of perceptual experience, thence drawing a calculative conceptual map - intelligence. While there is no question that traditional neo-Darwinian evolutionary dynamics explain the events leading to the creation of modern humans, the result is a seemingly anti-biological creature that hardly obeys the supposed sociobiological laws that govern other primates, even earlier forms of Homo. The cultural behavior that characterizes modern humans, a product of their hypertrophic cortex, has created a radically new taxonomic category in mammalian life. N° de réf. du vendeur 3868
