Patsy Cline's expressive voice and magnetic stage presence took her from the honky-tonks of her native Winchester, Virginia, to the Grand Ole Opry, network television, Carnegie Hall, and Las Vegas. A pioneer of the genre-crossingNashville Sound in the early 1960s, she won new audiences for country music with crossover hits such as “I Fall to Pieces,” “Crazy,” and “She's Got You.” Though she died at age thirty in a planecrash on March 5, 1963, her music continues to inspire new generations of fans and artists across the musical spectrum, from Martina McBride and Reba McEntire to Diana Krall and Norah Jones.
With a foreword by Rosanne Cashand an essay by noted country music authority Paul Kingsbury, Patsy Cline: Crazy for Loving You explores Cline's importance “as a brilliant singer, as a role model for women in the music business, and as a compellingstory of personal tragedy and artistic triumph.” Lavishly illustrated, this book offers more than 100 photos – many of them previously unpublished – depicting Cline on and off the stage, and including stage wear, her own hand-drawn costume designs, jewelry, and other personal effects. Memories from family members, friends, and musical colleagues provide additional insights into the life and tragically brief career of one of Americanmusic's most iconic figures.
