Synopsis
The 5 volume Learn-To-Read Series, contains 4 readers in each volume: Volume IV – In Sit By Me, book 13, the reader should have good analytical skills in recognizing new words. The reader has learned by now that changing the consonant in front of a digraph or trigraph can make many new words. In The Beach, book 14, there are enough words in the child’s reading vocabulary to develop a simple plot that tells the story of children interacting with one another at the beach. In Ike & Mike, books 15, the reader’s vocabulary progressively increases and the excitement of learning to read has carried the child through the first 15 readers. In Snowman, book 16, and the next four readers are more interesting as there is more of a plot to the story. Having read 16 readers, the reader can recognize between 150 to 250 words. This is now well into first grade reading material.
