Volume 1 of a detailed history of the Clay Center Line, also known as the "High Line," the Rock Island Railroad's Kansas subdivision from McFarland to Belleville. Covers the history from construction in 1887 to shutdown in 1980, including the years of glory when the Colorado Flyer, Red Ball freights and local passenger trains ran swiftly to the years of heartbreak when floods, wrecks and looming bankruptcy took their toll. Loaded with photographs, but, not just a pictorial book but a solid history of the Line. This copy is very bright and fresh, unmarked and 'as new'. Protected by a thgick plastic see-through cover. 256 pages, photo illustrated, figures, endpaper route maps. Very handsome copy!
