This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Hardcover. Etat : As New. First Printing Thus. This is a small book, 6 1/2 inches tall, a hardcover in quarter brown cloth with a cream colored spine label printed in black and tan paper covered boards with a brown printed of a man sitting under a tree fishing. It is a facsimile reproduction of the most faithful and accurate reproduction to the 1653 original first edition, which is the one designed by Bruce Rogers for the Riverside Press and published in 1909. Bruce Rogers designed the type, Layout and overall production of that edition, taking care to follow the same arrangement of Walton's work, for example including the positions of fish illustrations and musical notations, as well as the physical size, while incorporating greater legibility, and possibly even greater beauty as his own contribution. Printed in only 440 copies, the Rogers edition is, in itself, quite rare. This edition, From 1988 by the Birdalone Press remains true to the Rogers edition, right down to the extra spine label tipped in at the end. The Compleat Angler is one of the most reprinted books in the English language, next to The Bible, but almost all of them are of Isaak Walton's 1676 version. Therefore very few retain the actual text of Walton"s first edition of 1653. Many believe the 1653 first edition to be the most pure and beautiful, and this one, following the 1909 Roger's edition, retains that purity. This facsimile edition has been printed by offset lithography on acid-free Mohawk Ticonderoga paper at Fine Print of Bloomington, Indiana, for Birdalone Books. The trade edition has been Smyth sewn and hand bound in quarter cloth with Fabiano paper over boards. It is beautiful. It is the first publication of Birdalone Books. And in fine, as new condition, but for a small gift inscription in red on the upper corner of the first free endpaper. pp v-xvi contain the Bidalone introduction, followed by the 302 page Riverside facsimile of 1909.
