A GUIDE ON HOW TO PICK A MARRIED LAST NAME. Getting married? The number of decisions you have to make for the wedding, let alone decisions that will impact the rest of your life, can feel overwhelming. Taking on a life-long partner may also mean a new, life-long name. It is a big decision to change the name you’ve had since birth. Whether in same-sex or heterosexual nuptials, divorce or other life circumstances, names play an important role and can impact children, career, identity, and ultimately, your happiness. In Should I Change my Name? author Marcia Morgan walks you through the six most common married name options and reveals the pros and cons of each. You can even take a quiz to find out which one is the best fit for you. Morgan weaves in personal stories and tips from men and women who embraced their married name choices and those who had regrets. She describes the little-known history of why married women had to change their names and looks at naming practices in other countries and cultures. The book simplifies an otherwise overwhelming decision process so you and your partner can say a hearty “I Do” to the married name you choose.
This is a truly an excellent book! This book will have obvious appeal to folks about to get married, especially but not limited to women marrying men, but I found this book quite interesting as a cultural investigation of this issue past and present. I was particularly interested in your discussion of surnames in other countries… I also really appreciated how inclusive you have been in addressing same-sex marriage and the usage of pronouns, etc. Well organized… exemplary.
