Dust jacket rubbed with some soiling; color fading along flap folds; nicks at edges; light creasing at top of front panel; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Dust jacket's front and rear panels feature b/w images by Robert Mapplethorpe who was the partner of art curator and collector Sam Wagstaff (a third Mapplethorpe image is on page 84). Beige cloth mildly soiled; top corner of front board bumped. A few foxing spots and light soiling to edges; light moisture staining to top edge with faint stains at shallowly affecting interior leaves at their top margins; a few foxing spots on initial pages with a few minor occurrences to margins of other interior pages. Binding is firm. A very good- copy in a very good- dust jacket. Laid-in between pages 60-61 is a b/w portrait photographic print of an attractive brunette woman; image is uncredited and, despite an indeterminate relationship to the book, left in as a lagniappe. Published as the accompanying catalog for an exhibition organized by the Corcoran Gallery of Art and held at the Washington, DC museum from February 4 to March 26, 1978 and thereafter touring to the St. Louis Art Museum, New York University's Grey Art Gallery, the Seattle Art Museum, UC Berkeley's University Art Museum, and to Atlanta's High Museum of Art.
