Robert Oppenheimer and also worked at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In May 1942, Murray joined the research on the electromagnetic method of uranium separation under Ernest Lawrence in the Radiation Laboratory at Berkeley. At Oak Ridge, Murray was the Assistant Building Superintendent of the Y-12 Beta Building. After the war, Murray sated at Oak Ridge until 1950 when he went to North Carolina State University as Professor of Physics. He remained there for over five decades.
