About the book >.>.> The Important Bird Areas programme was launched in 1996, and BirdLife International would like to thank the many people and organisations that have contributed to it over the past eight years. The implementation of the programme across the region, through the holding of national workshops and support for national co-ordinators, was made possible due to the support to the Wild Bird Society of Japan (WBSJ) (BirdLife Partner in Japan) from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund (KNCF), Sekisui Chemical Company, Ltd., and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) (BirdLife Partner in the UK). In addition to supporting the IBA programme across the region over a three-year period, KNCF and Sekisui Chemical Company, Ltd. supported more detailed gathering of IBA information in Indonesia and China. Without the help of these sponsors, the IBA programme in Asia would not have started. Early work by the BirdLife Secretariat was possible due to support from the Ernest Kleinwort Ch.
