Reggie Slay 'went solo' near Oxford, when he was eleven years old. From then on he was never far from some form of motorised transport and as a test rider for Rudge Whitworth in his early teens he started to amass the knowledge and experience of bikes and cars that was to become his lifeline. From the 1920s he was someone to be reckoned with in the Thames Valley when it came to buying and selling cars and motorbikes. Apart from having ridden and driven more makes that most people have ever heard of, Reggie also found time to buy and develop property in Henley. In more than sixty busy working years Reggie was Managing Director of Squire Motors in Henley and one time Landlord of The Crown Inn at Pishill. As if that wasn't enough for one man's career he helped with an air taxi business, ran a skid school and operated a hire-car fleet. The pages of this book reflect the trials and humour of life between the Wars when fast cars, Brooklands, and power boats on the Thames suddenly gave way to duty as a Special Constable and years as Transport Officer in the RAF. Photographs and specially commissioned drawings illustrate this attractive and amusing chronicle.
