SOME COMMENTS FROM READERS OF FLY THE STORM. CARRIED ME AWAY. I took Fly the Storm on holiday. During a 12 hour train journey I was transported into an adventure that made the rail trip fly by. From the moment the heroine sets off on a flight in a Spitfire I was intrigued to discover what happened next. The author's passion for the period combined with his technical knowledge of the era provided the perfect scenario for an adventure that took me to a time and place I've never experienced. The courage of the characters drew me in as they put their lives on hold and personal ambitions to one side. Each of the main characters uses skill and determination to defeat the occupying forces of France, imagined I was there with them. After many heroic acts, can Blanche pull off just one more, and how will it affect her life after the war? You ll have to read Fly the Storm to find out. I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure, and the train journey. FICTION FROM FACT. A GREAT PORTRAYAL OF A YOUNG WOMAN'S LIFE IN WW2. When I read Birdsong, I was moved by the heartfelt account of life in WW1 trenches. If you were transfixed by Birdsong you should read Fly the Storm beecause James Stevenson captures much of the same intensity and realism when a young female Spitfire pilot is thrust into the chaos of occupied France. From the beginning I engaged with the heroine. Stevenson takes us on a journey of action, courage, passion love, fear, frustration, guilt and regret. Wonderfully researched, detailed, and reflecting true events of WW2. A great read, couldn t put it down. Would make an equally engaging movie! ROMANCE OF THE AIR. This action-packed story of the wartime adventures of a WW2 pilot engaged to deliver Spitfires from factories to air bases, has much to recommend it. Reminiscent of the BBC series The Secret Army, first screened decades ago on television. Set mainly in rural France, the novel follows impetuous aviatrix Blanche from her first mistaken landing in France, where she is interrogated, put under house arrest and later used as a spy by the French Resistance helping to smuggle rescued British airmen back to England. In the course of her intrigues she is obliged to fraternise with many top-ranking officers of the Luftwaffe, some of whom she detests, while others ... yes, pretty Blanche is never short of admirers, not only among the enemy but the airmen she nurses. A further amorous complication involves her English fiancé, missing and presumed dead. Stevenson adroitly handles the transitions between war and love, excitement and romance. . . A GREAT READ AND NOT JUST FOR THE BOYS. Another great book by James Stevenson! I read and loved Dartmouth Conspiracy and now Fly The Storm (not a sequel). Written in a visual way, I could clearly imagine the characters and where they were. It is the sort of book you never want to end. Truly a great book, the best I have read in a long time. Would someone PLEASE make Fly The Storm into a film, it would be a box office smash! A REALLY INTERESTING READ. I really loved this book, really exciting with real twists. The story starts in WW2 when the heroine (Blanche) gets lost en route to deliver a Spitfire, crashes in occupied France and ends up working for the Resistance. She falls for Otto (a German pilot), carries through an important task and loses him. In 1953 she travels to France to lay a few ghosts to rest. There are some shocking twists but the ending is good. I thoroughly recommend this to all who love WW2 stories. Brilliant! FLY THE STORM. This book depicts the other side of personal sacrifice during WWII. Entertaining, thought provoking, enlightening. I recommend you read it for yourself. A brilliantly put-together story.

James Stevenson, at the age of 19, piloted the De Havilland Vampire, one of the earliest single-seat jet fighters. After leaving the RAF he studied agriculture and directed businesses in Portugal and the UK. Both his novels have attracted Large Print and Audio publishers and are popular choices in libraries at home and overseas. In 2009 his witty poem To the Poet's Muse won first prize in the Waterstone's national competition launched to mark Robert Burns's 250th anniversary.
