Nothing's The Matter is a stunning, impressive, deeply intelligent work that, along with Antony Johnston's Frightening Curves, really shows what an imaginative person can do with the concept of the graphic novel. See, both works use illustrations to comment upon the prose being written, but you also can't just call the works & books with illustrations. While one could possibly read Frightening Curves without the pictures (although why one'd want to is beyond me), you simply can't imagine Nothing's The Matter without the pictures. The pictures comment upon and often mock the thought processes of the lead character, as well as the events in his life. The author quotes both Graham Greene and Douglas Coupland at the novel's start. The book reminds one of those two authors. This is like a hipper Graham Greene writing for our times, but infused with a humanism instead of strict Catholicism. Nothing against Mr. Greene, who is one of my fave authors, obviously. It's just nice to see that his type of writing can still be done and updated to face the 21st century. Yet, the authorial voice is also very much Mr. Reeve's alone. The voice is wry, cynical, yet also wanting to believe in art, love, and all the big stuff that makes life worthwhile. The art is fascinating. It's sketchy, it's beautiful, it's puzzling, and it plays by its own rules. This man is a real talent. Please buy his book. --Barb Lien-Cooper, sequentialtart.com

A young stockbroker drops out and goes to Paris to discover his place in life, only to find out that he already had. In fact, this massive 260-page assemblage of inks, pastels, washes and handwritten prose is something of a treatise on the nature of creativity, wrapped in a seductive package of impressionistic narrative and offering its own commentary. It may not be a comic in any conventional sense, but it's certainly compelling. --Comics International Magazine

Written and illustrated by Christopher Reeve (no not the Superman actor!) Nothing's The Matter traces a couple's obsessive love affair from London to Paris. The drama is hinted at rather than explicitly illustrated. With each volume weighing in at 260 pages, Nothing's The Matter is an innovative, multi-layered project that more resembles a personal journal rather than a traditional comic book. --Tripwire Magazine
