Professor Sir Colin Spedding had dedicated his long career to the study of biology, especially including animal welfare. He had a passionate interest in how living things interrelate and how such ecologies are shaped by the organism’s form, function, reproduction and behaviour. He was also very dedicated to the education of young people, having worked with primary school children for over 17 years, showing them the organisation and complexity of the living world, including its beauty. Here Professor Spedding explains the natural world around us from the perspective of a garden using clear line drawings, complemented with colour photographs. He aims to show how the apparently familiar is more fascinating than may be imagined.
