Synopsis

April 1997 - John Major’s government is dying. Tom Mackay, Scottish accountant and part-time Tory canvasser, is working in the dull world of City audit when he stumbles across a large insurance fraud. Evidence suggests his boss Silas Craven, who is standing in the election, could be linked to the missing money and some suspicious deaths - but Mackay’s not sure.

Mackay teams up with American colleague Sally Purcell and dirt-digging hack Nick Steadman to investigate. The search leads Mackay and Purcell to Gibraltar where they uncover more financial scandal and death. Steadman travels to Craven’s Northumberland hometown and discovers his murky past.

As Election Day approaches, the shocking truth emerges and Mackay is torn between doing the ‘right thing’ and keeping quiet in order to rescue his flagging career.
