Maria Vorobiev was born in a remote Georgian Village in the Kazan district of Tsarist Russia. She was sent to Moscow to study Art. She arrived in Paris in 1912 at the age of twenty via a trip to Capri, there she had met the Russian, Maxim Gorky who named her Marevna after the sea princess. Marevna was the first woman to discover Cubism and was surrounded by the talants of Picasso, Braque, Chagall, Modigliani and others.
