The Mersey Minis series brings together eight centuries of writing about Liverpool and the Mersey in delicious pocket-sized editions. Landing, Living, Longing, Loving and Leaving include the thoughts and reactions of residents, visitors and travelers, from 1207 to the present. From King John to Jack Kerouac, John Lennon to William Wordsworth; from politicians and pop stars to sailors, servants, scientists and spies, Mersey Minis voices are passionate, poignant, raw, funny and occasionally shocking. As Liverpool celebrates its 800 birthday in 2007, and European Capital of Culture in 2008, these are the perfect affirmation of the pride, passion, experiences and lasting influence of one of the great cities of the world.
Though a land-lubber herself, Deborah Mulhearn was born in Liverpool into a family with a typical seafaring tradition. She left school at 16 and worked in the wardrobe department of the Liverpool Playhouse. She then went back to formal education, studying English Literature at the University of Liverpool. After the requisite stint in London, where she worked for five years in publishing and as a journalist on the Architects' Journal, she returned to Liverpool in 1991 to pursue a freelance career in journalism. She writes for a wide variety of newspapers and magazines and has contributed to several books on architecture, history and environment.
