Synopsis

Preface by the author Stewart Halperin: I met Rob Walsh at a time when my group of practices had grown significantly through the sheer hard work and determination of myself and my team. I did have clearly defined personal goals but I didn t have particular goals for my business other than to somehow grow. I must admit that I considered the terms Mission, Vision and Core values to be corporate and vague. This book has been written in conjunction with the complete restructuring of my business according to the principles set out here. First and foremost the Vet in practice must become a state of the art clinician and this requires time, financial investment and education in training. But the delivery of Veterinary care always occurs in the context of a business environment. While practice owners need to become well educated business men and women, it serves every practitioner to have a clear understanding of how businesses grow and prosper. I hope the information and guidance in this book serves you well and both myself and Rob welcome any feedback you may offer so that we can all continue to grow and learn together Stewart Halperin BVMS MRCVS Petcare Clinics www.petcareclinics.co.uk

À propos de l?auteur

Stewart Halperin Stewart Halperin BVMS MRCVS is a veterinary surgeon and owner of the Petcare group of small- animal practices, based in London and Somerset. Stewart graduated from Edinburgh in 1992 and went on to complete an internship in small-animal medicine and surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Canada. He then returned to the UK where he worked at a number of Central London practices before starting the Petcare group in 2002. Understanding the constant pressure on veterinary surgeons to run excellent practices while maintaining all aspects of a profitable business, Stewart set up CarefreeCredit in 2013 to help vets ease their cash flow, get paid properly for their extraordinary skill set and work ethic, and to make all our lives easier. Stewart is committed to helping people achieve their personal and business goals and hopes this book will play a part in that ongoing journey for all of us. Rob Walsh Rob Walsh FCA began his career as a chartered accountant. He worked his way up the ladder over a period of eight years to become a partner in a six-partner firm. Rob recognised that as an accountant he was in an ideal position to not only help business owners measure their numbers, but also to help them change their numbers and achieve their personal goals. This was something he felt he could not do effectively in his role at that time, so in 2003 he formed the Clear Vision Accountancy Group (CVAG) to pursue this vision. Through CVAG, Rob has found his vocation helping to make a difference to the lives of business owners. He works closely with them, helping to define their goals every year and assisting them in reaching those goals. He has helped hundreds of business owners to get more of what they want from their lives. His notable track record includes an innovative action plan that successfully increased the turnover of a manufacturing business from £1.6m to £4m within three years. Having worked with dentists since 2001, Rob realised that vets face similar challenges and that there was potential to help business owners in the veterinary sector. He explains: It is clear that many vets struggle to find the time to step away from their businesses. They are tied to them on a daily basis. As a result their quality of life suffers. Their families suffer. And they rarely get the rewards they deserve. Rob is a man who most definitely walks his talk. CVAG is in the top 5 per cent profitable accountancy firms and continues to gain plaudits. But these results are not achieved at the expense of Rob s own life he enjoys thirteen weeks holiday a year and spends an additional six weeks working on the strategy for his business.
