The accompanying narratives offer a vivid first-hand insight into the experiences of the people portrayed. Two essays, by a psychiatrist and a cultural theorist, give the portraits a wider theoretical and social context. The book is published to accompany a series of ten framed photographic portraits (measuring 76 x 100 cm / 30 x 40 inches) designed for gallery exhibition.

Alexa Wright is an artist who works with photography, video, sound and interactive digital media. Most of her projects involve collaborations with medical scientists and/or people with medical conditions or disabilities.
