Synopsis

Some people think of their careers as a journey from that first Saturday job through to retirement, with many pleasant scenes along the way. Others think of it as a race beating the competition to the next promotion checkpoint. But sometimes it can feel as though you are going round and round the same track. You clock up another few miles, another lap, have a few more scratches on the paintwork and a bit less fuel in the tank, but essentially you are in the same place that you were a year ago. Pit Stop invites you to pull over, pause and have a think about your career and where it is going. Through a range of exercises you will learn more about how you have made career decisions in the past, where you are now, and crucially where you want to take your career in the future. There are no quick fixes promised and no silver bullets, but exploring your own preferences and motivation is an excellent foundation on which to build a rewarding career. Exercises such as Curiosity and the Swimming Cat encourage you to discover how you learn best and are happiest. Money Makes the World Go Around? challenges you to think about the cash in your wallet or bank account, and The Magic 100-Sided Career Dice generates some options for the future. And if you are feeling a bit anxious about it all, Be Bold, Be Brave... reminds you of times in your past when you have taken risks and they have paid off. Towards the end of the book, it will draw all the threads of your career together so you can create the plan and motivation to go out and make it happen. Pit stop is full colour A4 workbook containing 16 exercises split into Past, Present, Possible Futures and Endgame, with a Hello section to ease you in, and a Goodbye section to capture what you have learned. It is written in a sympathetic and engaging style and leads you step by step through a comprehensive review of your career.
