Synopsis
40 fine pieces of Chinese porcelain and works of art from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries are described in full detail. These pieces include an unusual kraak bowl with a Persian inscription on the interior rim, a rare pear-shaped bottle with the inscription “Jorge Alvares had this made in the year 1552”, and a circular box painted in the famille verte palette with a continuous landscape of fortified buildings, sailing ships and European figures – the only other known example is in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
