Synopsis

The most effective leaders in the modern business environment are those who won t accept the status quo. They don t follow every rule to the letter because that is how we ve always done things around here . Nor do they stand still while the world rapidly changes around them. They think, innovate, adapt and then, every so often, they upset everyone s apple cart because that is what needs to be done. These leaders are not disruptive for the sake of it; they are simply not just there for a ride. They instinctively know there is no such thing as a perfect decision and nothing is ever just black or white. To make a long-lasting difference they know they need to think on their feet and take action, even if this action isn t always the textbook way of doing things. Bryan Dunlop, the Irish Gurkha, freely admits he s not, and never has been, the textbook perfect leader . In fact, he is proud of the fact. He knows his fast thinking, innovative and occasionally left field style of leadership has not only sustained him through countless difficult situations, but has probably saved many lives too. He has had the opportunity to hone his effective leadership style on the battlefield, through four days of captivity in Angola and in the slightly less threatening environment of the international business arena. In Leadership Without Rules Bryan Dunlop shares his unique insight into free thinking and effective leadership. His view is that in the modern, fast-moving, business environment a new breed of leaders is required. This era of constant change, technological revolution and discovery needs people at the top who are able to think fast, adapt as necessary and find new ways to motivate their teams to greet these new challenges with enthusiasm not fear. This book is an invaluable toolkit leaders today can t afford to be without. If you want to make a big difference to your organisation, here is how.
