In 1967 he published The bikeriders and in 1971 Conversations with the Dead, a picture of Texas prison life in the late 1960's. His documentary feature films include The abandoned children, Little boy and El Otro Lado. He has received Guggenheim Fellowships in both photography and filmmmaking.
