Synopsis

temp words is a journey through impermanence from my perspective as an American mixed race woman of color. Poetry and prose reflect themes such as death, outrage, temptation, identity, and transcendence. This is my edge, this is how I navigate through life: one moment at a time. alison hart

Présentation de l'éditeur

I started writing this book in 1996, when I was working as a temp in San Francisco, mostly as a receptionist. I was grieving the loss of my brother, and took whatever opportunity possible to write underneath the florescent lights.

My brother’s death rocked my paradigm and forced me to face the impermanence of our lives. This Buddhist concept of impermanence has liberated me in many ways. temp words is a journey through impermanence from my perspective as a mixed race woman of color living in America. This is my edge, this is how I navigate through life: one moment at a time.

Twenty percent of the proceeds from temp words will go to MISSSEY, a community based organization in Oakland, California, whose goal is to eradicate the commercial sexual exploitation of our children.

A Reader's Review:

November 8, 2013

Dear Alison,

I so enjoyed reading temp words...
you are a talented writer and an outspoken social critic...
you are a reflection of the deep emotions in our hearts and yours...
you are an embodiment of the spirits and courage of your ancestors…
you are a spokeswoman for the power of the family…
you are a sensual and provocative love poet...
your images and your abstractions both sink deep into the consciousness of the reader...
All the different aspects of you are revealed in your work, and each facet is brilliant and glowing in its own way.

I was moved, touched, thrilled, righteously outraged, inspired and filled with sorrow in turn! To put it simply, I love your writing!

In Sisterhood,

Roberta
