The first section of the text discusses the emergence and growth of wild trout populations in Iowa's classic spring creeks and also features detailed recommendations for tackle, angling techniques, and fly selection. New to this edition are four tables that suggest an imaginative assortment of common and not-so-common fly patterns arranged by season and situation.
The second section provides more than forty maps that guide anglers to 48 trout streams, while the accompanying commentary offers advice on fishing strategy, fly selection, and navigating the twisty roads of Iowa's rugged trout country, known to the residents as "Little Switzerland."
A brief, third section of the book includes additional tips and illustrated, clearly written instructions for tying the three most common fly-fishing knots.

Native Iowan Jene Hughes has fished many of the best trout streams in America, but it's more than the home-field advantage that ties him to the Hawkeye State's creeks. He knows from years of fishing and guiding that Iowa's contributions to the web of creeks and rivers that permeate the Upper Mississippi's Bluff Country don't take a back seat to streams anywhere. Hughes -- an educator, editor, and award-winning writer -- also owns a fly-fishing pro shop where he holds fly-fishing and casting classes and outfits anglers for trips anywhere in the world. Through the years, his articles have appeared in variety of special interest magazines, but he always returns to angling. This is his second book, and he is currently working on another.
